米国大使訪問時スピーチ
まず、板庇さんによる、歓迎と米国訪問お礼のスピーチ
Welcome to Obama City. We are Wakasa High School students. My name is Ms. Itabasashi and this is Mr. Nakajima. We had a chance to go to Washington and Chicago last summer on the Lincoln Program. We visited the Chicago Consular Office, the Japanese Embassy in Washington, and the White House. People warmly welcomed us and we were shown great hospitality by them. Also we visited Sidwell High school. We were impressed with the education system which is very different from our country.
In the White House, we handed a letter to and had a chance to talk to Mr. Daniel Russell. We had a really good time. We thank you for everything we experienced there.
These are presents for Mr. and Mrs. Roos. They are traditional Japanese fans with ancient Chinese characters that read Wakasa and Obama. They were designed by Mr. Nakamichi, the calligraphy teacher at our school. Please enjoy.
ここからは中島君によるスピーチ。若狭高校の紹介と、科学教育に関してアメリカの高校と交流する場合に助言と支援をお願いする内容である。
Now I will explain to you about Wakasa High School. Our school has a long history: more than one hundred years. We have a very old school gate from the Edo period, called “Junzo Mon”. This gate is a symbol of education. Students in our school study hard in order to improve themselves.
In particular, our school focuses on science education assisted greatly by some universities, for example, Kyoto University and a university in Kanasawa.
We also have a student exchange program with foreign schools. Some students visit Taiwan, and take part in the Asian Students Exchange Program. Students from Wakasa and Taiwan work together and make a presentation in English. In addition, some students are given the opportunity to visit Xian, China. These programs started more than ten years ago.
As you can see, one of our school’s goals is to develop human resources that can actively participate in the field of science internationally. Therefore our school hopes to expand our science program more by cooperating with foreign high schools. We would really like to develop relationships with US high schools, such as Sidwell High School in Washington we visited last year, so we can exchange invaluable information and ideas. We hope Wakasa students will continue to have many more educational and cross-cultural opportunities in the future. We would like you to give us some advice and support to help create friendships between Wakasa and American high school students.
If you have time, please come by our school and see our school gate “Junzo Mon”. Thank you very much.
